The Downeast Salmon Federation would like to invite you to our East Machias Aquatic Research Center (EMARC) and Peter Gray Memorial Hatchery, located at 13 Willow Street in East Machias. Located on the banks of the East Machias River, the hatchery at EMARC is home to tens of thousands of endangered juvenile Atlantic salmon. The salmon reared at EMARC will be released into the East Machias River as part of the DSF’s Parr Project in an effort to boost salmon numbers. Come check out our visitor’s center and learn more about the Parr Project, Atlantic salmon, and the Downeast Salmon Federation and our many programs. Tour the Peter Gray Memorial Hatchery and see the unique rearing process and hatchery operations. Visitor’s center hours are Wednesday – Friday 9:00am – 3:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am – 1:00pm (Please note: Visitors center may be open other days of the week, but is not guaranteed. Please feel free to call ahead if you plan to visit on off days!) EMARC staff will be happy to conduct free walk-in tours of the hatchery, though you may call ahead and schedule a tour if preferred. For more information or to schedule a tour, please call 207-255-0676. To learn more about the Downeast Salmon Federation, like us on Facebook or visit us online at mainesalmonrivers.org.
