Machias, Maine—Downeast Coastal Conservancy (DCC) is looking forward to seeing everyone this summer at one or more of their events. Events planned for June include the popular Plant Sale, an Open House, a Walking Story Time and a Coastal Island Cleanup.

The June calendar will kick off with the Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1. The sale will take place at the Whiting Community Center and will begin at 9am. Come early for best selection, we’ll be finished by noon.

Stop by the DCC Office and learn more about the organization, what is planned for the summer and how you can get involved at our Open House. The Open House will take place on Friday, June 7 during the Machias First Friday Art and Craft Walk. The DCC Office is located next to the Whole Life Market in Machias.

Families and story lovers of all ages are invited to join us for a Walking Story Time on Tuesday, June 18. The Story Time will be on DCC’s newly acquired Middle River Property in Machias. A Walking Story Time combines a children’s story with a walking route. Walking Stories combine a healthy outdoor activity with literature. The story we will be reading is recommended for ages 4-8. The Walk will be self guided from 3pm-7pm, starting from the Sunrise Trail kiosk across the street from Helen’s Restaurant. Kids with adult, join us at 3:30pm for a guided story time and activities.

Join us for an Island Cleanup and Stewardship Day in Addison on June 22. DCC will be partnering with the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) for an island cleanup on the islands around Addison. Arrange your own transportation to Tibbett Island, or contact MITA (207-761-8225 or stewards@mita.org) to ride along on one of their boats.
