Down East EMS concluded 2013 by responding to almost 150 calls in December from bases in Eastport, Lubec, Machiasport and Woodland.

For the year our service ran 2143 calls. These were nearly evenly divided between emergency calls to homes and businesses in Washington County and transfers to hospitals throughout Maine and points beyond.

Employee News

Congratulations to Darren Mcgovern for receiving his license at the Advanced EMT Level!

Led by the Baileyville crew, Down East EMS adopted a family for Christmas. Employees purchased gifts then wrapped and delivered them Christmas morning via ambulance.

The Southern Division crews of Lubec and Machiasport held a Christmas celebration featuring a potluck and a visit from Santa. Employees from all bases met at the Meddybemps Community Center for a Christmas celebration notable for fun and music.

Generator Safety

Winter has brought snow, ice and with it power outages. Generators can help mitigate these but do carry risks.

Improperly located generators can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning which can be fatal. Symptoms include: flu like symptoms but no fever such as headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness and being confused.

To prevent such issues from occurring keep generators outside and 15 feet away from windows or doors. Conversely don’t put generators in garages or basements where carbon monoxide can build up.

Down East EMS wishes all a Happy New Year! We hope to not have to see you but if we do, we promise professional and compassionate care.
