Dorian Daniels Dances Like the Stars

Dorian Daniels from I-95 (WWMJ, a station of Town Square Media) will participate in the inaugural Dancing Like the Stars event, a fundraiser for the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. Well known for her 13 years on 92.9 WEZQ, she now resides on I-95, Bangor’s Home for Classic Hits. Dorian is not new to the Komen Maine Affiliate, having performed co-emcee duties at the Race for the Cure in Bangor for many years. She took her work with Komen one step further by agreeing to dance for many reasons. “It took a very special meaning for me when my aunt passed away from breast cancer in 2003,” said Dorian, “Cancer of all kinds has touched so many people in my life to date. Still, I am always encouraged each year as our survivor group grows and grows.” Yet raising money for the cause is not her only motivation. “Part of the reason I wanted to dance was for redemption with my mother. When I was 5 she desperately wanted me to dance but I was too afraid to go in the room with the big kids to do it….I haven’t heard the end of it yet. Here hoping this might be the fix…love ya Mom!”

Fans can support Dorian by purchasing tickets to the show and/or voting for her at $1 per vote. You don’t have to wait until the night of the event, however. Dancers are collecting “votes of confidence” prior to the event online.

Susan G. Komen Maine’s Dancing Like the Stars will take place on Saturday, March 9th at Gracie Theatre at Husson University. Tickets are on sale now, with an early discounted price of $40 through Feb 22nd. Eight local celebrity dancers will compete for the top prize along with dance coaches provided by the Back Door Dance Studio. Our 2013 dancers are: Allen Adams from The Maine Edge, Andre Cushing, State Senator and from ERA Dawson Bradford, Andrew Hamilton from Eaton Peabody, Dolly Perkins from Realty of Maine, Dorian Daniels from I-95, John Osborne from Hollywood Casino, Melissa Kim from WLBZ-2 and Nichi Farnham, a local community leader.

Due to the annual success of the Race for the Cure and other fundraising efforts like Dancing Like the Stars, the Komen Maine Affiliate has invested nearly $2.6 million for education, screening and treatment programs and over $750,000 for breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Grants Program. The community grants program is the backbone of our local affiliate, but our impact reaches far beyond those programs, including breast health education offerings and community organizing.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.
