Discovery Days: Build a Dory

Community Author:
Post Date:

In New England, dories were built and used for fishing at least as early as the eighteenth century. On Thursday, July 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Wilson Museum on 120 Perkins Street, Castine, learn about the history of these flat-bottom boats. Participants will build their own model dory out of cardboard using a template designed by author, illustrator, and former boat-builder Sam Manning. Cover the boat in tape, paint it and it’s ready to launch!

Discovery Days programs are designed for families with children ages 12 and under and cost $3 per person, per program, or $12 per family, per program for families with four or more members participating. Ensure your participation by contacting 326-9247, or to pre-register and pay for the program. Join us every Thursday at 2:00 pm until August 16 for a similar family-friendly program.
