Dennysville Memorial Day Observance

The one hundred forth-eighth Memorial Day Observance will be held in Dennysville on Monday, May 27, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Dennysville-Edmunds Congregational Church. A short service will be held there, and it will consist of patriotic songs, reading of Revolutionary War Veterans’ names, story of a veteran, and prayer. The parade to the Dennysville Cemetery will form in the churchyard and will proceed to the cemetery with stops at the Monument and at the Upper Bridge. At the Monument, there will be a laying of a wreath, patriotic song, reading of Civil War Veterans’ names, and prayer. At the Upper Bridge, a wreath will be cast into the Dennys River, Spanish-American War Veterans’ names and World War I Veterans’ names will be read, a patriotic song will be sung, and a prayer will be said. At the beginning of the cemetery, World War II Deceased Veterans’ names will be read, a patriotic song will be sung, a wreath will be laid, and a prayer said. At the top of the cemetery, the American flag will be raised, taps will be played, a prayer said, and the names of Deceased Veterans in the Modern Era will be read.

A bus will be provided for those who wish to ride the route from the church to the cemetery. Refreshments will be served at the Parish Hall at the conclusion of the observance. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend and show patriotism to this great country!
