PROVIDENCE, R.I. —  Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corp., and one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England, has announced the opening of its first office in Rhode Island. Gary Heaslip, formerly with TGA Cross in Wakefield, Mass., has been tapped to take charge of the new office, located at 855 Waterman Avenue, Suite A, in East Providence.

Cross Insurance’s expansion into the Providence market continues the company’s aggressive growth plans.  The company’s first office in Rhode Island also marks Cross Insurance’s 30th office throughout New England.

“This new office is designed to better serve the needs of our existing Rhode Island clients while also opening the doors wide open for new ones as well,” said Royce Cross, CEO of Cross Insurance, in a press release. “The attractiveness of the state, coupled with the potential for further growth, made this decision an easy one.”

Heaslip will serve as president of Cross Insurance – Rhode Island, and will be responsible for providing the most comprehensive insurance platform available at the lowest cost, while also utilizing the largest outreach of marketplace availability in New England. Heaslip also will oversee Cross Insurance’s growth through new production, and the acquisition of agencies and producers in Rhode Island.

Prior to joining Cross Insurance – Rhode Island, Heaslip served as Vice President/Sales manager for Cross Insurance subsidiary TGA Cross in Wakefield, Mass. A 26-year industry veteran, Heaslip formerly served as Executive Vice President of a prominent insurance brokerage firm in Providence, R.I.  Heaslip graduated third in his class from Providence College in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in business management, earning top honors in that curriculum.

“Rhode Island holds great meaning in my personal and professional lives and I am thrilled to oversee the operation of Cross Insurance’s Providence office,” Heaslip said.  “Our work here in Rhode Island will truly represent the impact of the Cross brand and the breadth of insurance companies we represent.  We offer a genuinely local experience, without relying on the outsourcing of important policy functions.”

“When we decided to open an office in Providence, Gary Heaslip, a Rhode Island native, was the obvious choice to run it,” said Brent Cross, Executive Vice President at Cross Insurance.  “Gary previously worked in the Providence area – even attended college there – and his regional and product knowledge is unsurpassed.”

Founded in 1954, Cross Insurance has grown from a small, family-owned and operated insurance agency based in Bangor, Maine, into one of the largest insurance providers in New England with 500 employees in more than 30 offices, servicing 100,000 customers throughout the region. Still family-owned and operated, Cross Insurance, a subsidiary of Cross Financial Corporation, provides an extensive range of customized and innovative insurance and financial products including personal and commercial insurance lines, employee benefits, surety bonds, comprehensive risk management advice and counsel, and specialized products focused on higher education and high net worth needs.
