Detail of Mesoamerica Resiste

PITTSFIELD, Maine — The Mid-Maine Community Forum will feature “Artwork and Storytelling” by The Beehive Design Collective at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, at First Universalist Church of Pittsfield at the corner of East and Main streets.
The Beehive Design Collective, a non-profit political arts organization based in Machias and dedicated to “cross-pollinating the grassroots,” will work with art students at  Maine Central Institute during the day and then present to the general public in the evening.
Appreciated internationally for their educational graphics campaigns, regionally for their stone mosaic murals and apprentice program, and locally for their dedication to the revitalization of the Machias Valley Grange Hall, the touring swarms present narrative picture-lectures at over 300 locations in the Western Hemisphere. Now, they will share Mesoamerica Resiste, the final installment in a nine-year trilogy of graphics that began with posters about Free Trade and the Drug War, and reflects the bees’ efforts to go beyond illustrating bad news to also sharing stories of collective action and inspiration.
Through storytelling and art, the artists work together with communities to illuminate the connections between single issues and the big picture to offer healthy and visual representations of the complex and overwhelming issues our society faces.
The Forum is free and open to all. Donations are welcome.
