Closure of Pittsfield Rehab and Nursing

PITTSFIELD, Maine — Pittsfield Rehab and Nursing will stop providing nursing home services effective September 5, 2014. Due to financial pressures beyond our control we are unable to continue operations.

After extensive work including discussions with accountants, legislators, elected officials and others, we have come to the conclusion that our business model is not viable.

Other news stories have described the financial and other operating pressures facing small rural nursing homes such as ours.

We are proud of the quality care that we have delivered as a result of the support we have received from staff, families and state and federal agencies. We thank all who have helped our family manage to remain in business since 1978.

At this time we believe that it is in the best interest of the residents, staff, and the community to plan for an orderly closure of the nursing home over the next 60 days.

We are coordinating with state officials at DHHS to implement our approved closure plan, and are working with our residents and families, and the Long Term Care Ombudsman to relocate our residents to other facilities. We understand the challenge this presents to all and wish there was an easier solution.

We will work closely with residents, families, staff and the community to find the best possible placement for residents and workers.
