FORT KENT –– In skilled nursing care centers across the country, each person has a unique story to tell. Forest Hill Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center is bringing the theme of this year’s National Skilled Nursing Care Week to life. The national celebration, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, is being celebrated across the country May 13-19.

The theme for the observance, “Celebrating Life’s Stories,” pays tribute to the diverse perspectives that residents, families, and staff bring to interactions every day in skilled nursing care centers and the surrounding communities. Each person in the long and post-acute care community contributes a distinct perspective that enriches the story of each center.

At Forest Hill, the week-long celebration was filled with events such as: spa day, music, food, a photo booth, bingo and much more. A special remembrance mass was also held to commemorate the residents who passed this year. In the course of the week, residents were provided with an opportunity to share their life stories which have been recorded on the story wall at the center of the facility.

Brooke Saucier, Forest Hill Activity Coordinator said, “At Forest Hill we take pride in better understanding our residents’ stories and it enables the residents to share something unique about themselves that we may not have previously known about them.” Taking time to listen to how life’s most significant events, relationships, and experiences have shaped who others are today cultivates a shared sense of purpose and deeper understanding for both the narrator and the listener.

Travis Guy, RN, Forest Hill Administrator, said, “In addition to the unique attributes and stories of our residents, every employee in all departments alos brings a unique story along with a set of talents, experience, compassion and respect to truly make this a family. As a result of the dedication of our employees, we are able to create a loving environment for our residents to call home.” The public is invited to learn about the amazing residents and staff at Forest Hill by visiting the story wall.
