“The Adams School in Castine”, 5” x 7” oil by Dan Graziano, featured artist in the thirteenth Castine Historical Society Art Show and Sale scheduled for August 16-18.

Castine, Maine — The Castine Historical Society will sponsor an art show and sale beginning with an opening reception on Friday, August 16 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The show and sale will continue on Saturday, August 17 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. and on Sunday, August 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The event will be held on the lower level (Mitchell Room) of the Abbott School on the Castine Town Common, home of the Castine Historical Society.

Now in its thirteenth year, this summer’s show will feature the original work of local artists and craftspeople in a wide array of fine arts media, photography and crafts. Sales will be encouraged and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Castine Historical Society and its mission.

New to this year’s show is work by nationally-represented Castine artist Dan Graziano, the driving force behind last month’s highly acclaimed first Castine Plein Air Festival. His paintings focus on iconic images of Castine. According to Graziano, “Castine has such a wealth of beautiful landscapes, magnificent architecture and charming street scenes that one could paint here a lifetime and never feel they have run out of great things to paint.”

Stefanie Scheer Young, co-organizer of the event said, “Because of the magnitude of talent and diversity of work by artists and craftspeople who live in or spend summers in this small town, the Castine Historical Society art show attracts serious collectors as well as casual browsers.”

Concurrent with the art show and sale is the historical society’s ongoing seasonal exhibit in the main exhibition hall, “Missions and Meeting Houses, Chapels and Churches”, which is open seven days a week through Labor Day with more limited hours into early fall. The art show as well as the Society’s exhibits are free and open to the public.
