A Mapleton family had a very special reason to celebrate the 2013 holiday season with the birth of a new baby girl that represented the 200th delivery at Cary Medical Center for 2013. With Lydia’s birth, it was the second year in a row Cary has achieved this milestone, as the hospital had not had 200 births in one year, prior to 2012, for the past 17 years.
Lydia Anne Braley was born at 8:22 a.m., on Monday, December 23rd, to Isaac and Kristina Braley, and big sister, Emily, of Mapleton. Lydia weighed 8 lbs. 1.2 ounces and was 22 inches long. Dr. Brian Wall, Senior Obstetrician and Gynecologist with Pines Health Services and Pines Certified Nurse Midwife, Kim Martin, performed the delivery.
“Cary has a tradition of delivering babies that goes back almost 90 years”, commented Kris Doody, RN, Cary CEO. “We are a family centered organization and childbirth is a very special part of who we are as a hospital. We truly have an exceptional and collaborative partnership with Pines and a high quality nursing service for maternal and child care. We are thrilled and honored by families throughout our service area who choose Cary as the birthplace for this life changing experience.”
The Braley family received some special gifts from the hospital after going home that were presented by Jennifer Plante, RN, Primary Charge Nurse for the Maternal/Child Unit at Cary.
“We received wonderful care and everyone was so great, ” commented Kristina. “And they treated me just like a patient too, with meals, a cot in Kristina’s room for me to stay; they were so accommodating for my family. It was awesome care,” Isaac concurred.
“We are very proud of our nursing staff here on the Maternal Child Unit”, said Plante. “Our patient satisfaction surveys give us a 5-Star rating and this demands our best efforts.” Plante also noted that the growth in the variety of delivery options at Cary has also attracted pregnant couples.
“We have really seen some great advancement in the entire birthing process at Cary over the years”, she said. “From two home-like birthing rooms with birthing beds to the option of a water birth, our obstetrical team has really sought to respond to the desires of their patients. We also provide both Epidural and Intrathecal Anesthesia, and we have a rooming in program for new dads and siblings. We strive to make the entire birthing experience focused on the patient, the family and the newborn.”
Cary also offers free childbirth education classes and provides child car-seat training for new parents and grandparents.
