Caring Connections will host a Day of Caring with Healing Touch for breast cancer survivors on October 22nd. Caring Connections is a cooperative program between The Bangor YMCA and EMMC that offers support for women that have received a breast cancer diagnosis, as well as providing no-cost mammograms and Pap Tests for women that financially qualify for the services. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the local Healing Touch Community is volunteering their time to offer 45 minute Healing Touch Sessions to help support relaxation and stress reduction for women that have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Healing Touch is a complementary energy therapy that works to restore harmony and balance in an individual’s energy system to support healing of mind, body, and spirit. It promotes the body’s relaxation response, the body’s counterpart to the fight-or-flight response, to bring a person’s energetic body to a place of balance and openness, where self-healing is more likely to occur.

Leanne Bishop, M.Ed, HTP is organizing the Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Survivors. She works at Caring Connections as a Health Education Specialist and as a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner (where she sees YMCA members and non-members for private Healing Touch sessions). The local Healing Touch Community generously volunteered to provide these heart-centered services to be able to give back to their community and offer HT for people that may not be able to afford private Healing Touch sessions. Participants have the opportunity to provide a donation for receiving a session, which goes toward helping support Caring Connections programming. Also, the Healing Touch Community feels this event is a great way for Students and Apprentices of Healing Touch to practice techniques as well as a way of saying “Thank You” to the Bangor YMCA for providing space for prior (as well as upcoming) Healing Touch classes at the Bangor YMCA.

If anyone is interested in finding out more information about Caring Connections services or about the upcoming Healing Touch Level 1 class that is being held at the Bangor YMCA on November 5th and 6th, please contact Leanne Bishop at (207) 941-2808 ext. 335 or
