Burns W. Knowlton Jr. Post 32 National September 11th Commemoration in Pittsfield

Please join the members of the Burns W. Knowlton Jr. American Legion Post 32 as they remember those who died and show support for America’s veterans. The Post will also recognize the community’s police, fire and EMS services. The program begin at 5:00 pm at Hathorn Park off Somerset Avenue on September 11, 2013 with Opening Comments by Gary R. Jordan, Jr., Master of Ceremony. Mr. Jordan, Jr. is also the Mayor of the Town. The Pittsfield Fire Department will perform the Striking of the Four Fives. The Posting of the Colors will be by the Nokomis J.R.O.T.C. Malissa Herbest will perform the National Anthem. Fred Allen will lead the participants in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our own Sumner “Bud” Jones, who received the 2013 Pittsfield Spirit of America Award, will perform the Invocation. The MCI School Band will play God Bless America to be followed by presentations of certificates. Mayor Jordan will read the Proclamation of the Town proclaiming September 16, 2013 as American Legion Day and September 2013 as American Legion Month. Legion Post 32 will then present the banner. The Key Note Speaker for the evening will be Michael D. Wyly, Retired Colonel U.S. Marine Corps. The ceremony will close with a benediction by Sumner “Bud” Jones and the retiring of the colors by the Nokomis J.R.O.T.C. This event has been made possible through the hard work of Gary Jordan, Sr., Program Chair. The Town would like to thank Harold Goodridge, Post Commander and the members of the American Legion for their dedication in supporting and helping veterans throughout the year. Event programs are available at the Pittsfield Town Office, Pittsfield Public Library, Pittsfield Community Theatre, and stores in the community. The American Legion Post 32 invites all veterans of the area, their families and their guests to attend the ceremony to remember those who died while protecting this country.
