The Gawler Family will kick off the live entertainment for Belfast Co-op’s 9th Annual Community Appreciation Day this Saturday, August 17.

On Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., the Belfast Co-op invites the community to attend their 9th Annual Community Appreciation Day (previously known as Customer Appreciation Day). There will be free live local music throughout the day, local vendors with free samples, a cook-out with burgers and dogs, including vegetarian options, and Co-op Hot Italian sausage subs with peppers & onions. This year the event is expanding beyond their parking lot, at 123 High Street in downtown Belfast, and taking over High Street between Main and Beaver streets.

This year’s live music lineup is: 10:30am Gawler Family, 12pm Belfast Bay Fiddlers, 1:15pm Leaky Boot Jug Band, 2:30pm Juke Rockets Blues Band, 3:45pm Odlaw, and 5pm The Hips. Between music sets, door prizes will be announced for lucky winners.

Many local vendors will be providing free samples, including Bixby Bars (Belfast), Cheryl Wixson’s Kitchen (Belfast), Heiwa Tofu (Belfast), Julie Ann’s Outrageous! Foods (Belfast), Let Them Eat Cake (Belfast), Energy Gem (Camden), Tea Maineia (Bangor), Chow Maine (Southwest Harbor), Cowboy’s Salsa (Thomaston), “Hootin” Gluten Free Bakery (Damariscotta), Borealis Breads (Waldoboro), Bagel Mainea (Augusta), GrandyOats (Brownfield), Wicked Joe (Brunswick), Maine Root (Portland), VitaminSea (Buxton), and more!

There will be a fundraising book sale, gift basket raffles, and a 50/50 rafflewith all proceeds donated to local nonprofits. Last year these activities raised $1200. This year’s recipients are Avian Haven, The Game Loft, Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (MOFGA), New Hope for Women, and P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center.

Polly Shyka and Prentice Grassi of Village Farm in Freedom will be selling MOFGA-certified organic produce again this year.

Jamie Huntsberger will be providing free “structural integration” sessions on a massage table, and Sarah O’Blenes, from Waldo County General Hospital, will be sharing information about their Journey to Health and 5210 Let’s Go! programs.

P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and the Humane Society of Knox County will also be present, bringing along a few companion animals seeking forever homes.

And the American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be set up on High Street holding a blood drive between 10am and 3pm.
