Bangor Parents, Students, and Staff:
The Bangor School Committee voted today to amend the 2017-2018 school calendar given the two days lost to power outages. The school calendar has three storm days built in and two of those days were used on October 31st and November 1st. Commissioner of Education Robert Hasson has instructed superintendents to put plans in place to make up any missed days. By law, students must attend school a minimum of 175 days and seniors must attend a minimum of 170 days and may not graduate more than 5 days prior to the last regular student day.
Therefore, Monday, November 20th, is now a half student day in the a.m. The start times will be the regularly scheduled times. The students will have an early release on Monday, November 20th, with the following dismissal times: Bangor High will dismiss at 11 a.m., James F. Doughty School, SPRPCE Innovation School, Bangor Regional Program, and William S. Cohen School will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and all elementary schools (Abraham Lincoln, Downeast, Fourteenth Street School, Fruit Street School, Vine Street School, Fairmount School, and Mary Snow School) will dismiss at 12 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
Friday, March 2nd, will also be a regular student day and will no longer be an in-service day. These revisions to the calendar now allow for three storm days for the remainder of the school year.
