AUGUSTA, Maine — Eighteen months after announcing plans to join the major redevelopment project on the site of the former Kennebec Journal building, Bangor Savings Bank on Monday celebrated with officials from Augusta as it officially opened the doors to a 16,793-square-foot building on Senator Way.
The new building features a full-service bank branch, state of the art employee training and meeting facility, and office space for other banking and business services.
The Senator Way location is Bangor Savings Bank’s second branch in Augusta, and the 57thbranch for Maine’s largest independent bank.
Jim Conlon, president and CEO of Bangor Savings Bank, welcomed city officials and bank employees to the ceremony. “This is an exciting day for us! Ten years ago, we opened our first branch in Augusta. Since that time, we have experienced tremendous support from our customers and the community and have seen significant growth, adding nearly 1,500 personal customers and almost 300 business customers. We decided that expansion in the Augusta market was really important. We believe that this location – the entrance into Augusta – is a prime spot for us. My colleagues and I are so proud to occupy this landmark site, where we have assembled a strong team of employees who will call this new building home,” said Conlon in a bank press release.
Conlon mentioned that Bangor Savings Bank continues to grow in number and has hired six new employees as a result of the expansion. The bank now employs more than 750 people statewide.
Augusta Mayor William R. Stokes participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “On behalf of the citizens of Augusta, I would like to roll out the red carpet for Bangor Savings Bank and convey our thanks for your major investment in this great City. This brand new building is not just a source of pride for the Bank, but a valuable asset for Augusta,” said Stokes, according to the press release.
