BAR HARBOR – Artist and author Savitri Bess will be at the Jesup Memorial Library for a book signing for her new novel, “The Sophia Secrets” on Wednesday, Feb. 6, beginning at 7 p.m.
The author is the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fulbright Foundation. She has master’s degrees in counseling psychology and fiber arts. Her previous book, a work of nonfiction published by Ballantine in 2000, is “The Path of the Mother.” She is also the author of a previous novel. Ms. Bess is a counselor, astrologer and tapestry weaver who lives in Southwest Harbor.
“The Sophia Secrets” follows Anne Demaree, who moves to the Maine coast in her elder years on a quest to heal and purge her anger. That quest takes her to a Hindu temple in India and into the deepest recesses of her own consciousness and her heart. She must contend not only with old woman she keeps encountering on her walks, but with the questions of whether a budding relationship with a retired philosophy professor is in the cards for her and whether she can help with a crisis concerning his drug-troubled son.
