Author Earl Brechlin Discusses The Crash of the K-14 Air Ship off of MDI During WW2:
On Thursday, November 29th at 9am at the MDI YMCA, Author and Editor of the Mount Desert Islander Earl Brechlin will be the featured speaker at the free, weekly Walks and Talks program. In July of 1941 the U.S. Navy Blimp K-14 crashed into the sea off Mount Desert Rock while searching for a Nazi submarine that had been spotted by local fishermen. Several men died. The hastily-called official inquiry listed pilot error as the cause but the pilot was never disciplined. However, there is ample evidence, including eye witness reports of gunfire and explosions, that K-14 may have gone down in a firefight.
Join author and Mount Desert Islander editor Earl Brechlin as he goes over the story of what really happened to the K-14. Walks and Talks is free and open to the public. After the ‘Talk’, participants are free to use the Y facility. Please note that we follow the ‘no-school’ policy. If there is no school, there is no program. The MDI YMCA is located at 21 Park Street in Bar Harbor.
