Renowned international artist, Alan Magee, will be the highlight of the 11th Annual Festival of Art, with a presentation of his life and work on Saturday, May 18, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Avenue, Belfast. Magee may be best known for his extremely detailed paintings of stones and well-worn tools and, more recently, for his haunting black and white social statements in monotypes of wounded visages. Before his first solo exhibit as a fine artist, he was a highly successful book-cover and magazine illustrator in New York. He has had scores of solo and group exhibits and received numerous commissions and national awards. His work is in many museum and private, celebrity collections, and he has been the subject of many books, radio and TV interviews, including MPBN’s Maine Master series. His presentation will offer a rare look at the natural progression of a well-respected Maine realist into a committed social activist, right up to his new video against gun violence. His work and resume may be seen on the Internet at Alan Magee’s presentation is free and open to the public.
