CALAIS, Maine — Anne Perry, a nurse practitioner who served in the Maine House for eight years, has announced she is running for the Maine State Senate in District 6, which includes all of Washington County and the communities of Gouldsboro, Sullivan, and Winter Harbor in Hancock County.

“I will champion the unique needs of Down East Maine, and will work with anyone, regardless of party, to strengthen our communities,” said Perry, in a press release. “We must be sure we have access to affordable health care and that our hospitals are here to take care of us. We must build our local economy so that Downeasters can earn a livable wage.”

Perry served four terms in the Maine House, where she served as chairwoman of the Health and Human Services Committee. During her tenure in the House, she fought to protect services for Down East Maine and for necessary investments in local communities.

“The state must do its share to help our communities provide essential services,” said Perry. “This includes restoring revenue-sharing so that Down Easters’ tax dollars are invested locally.”

Perry works as a nurse practitioner at Calais Regional Medical Services. She is the co-founder of Neighbors Against Drug Abuse, in keeping with her lifelong passion for improving public health and reducing the number of Mainers addicted to drugs and alcohol.

She is a member of several boards and community organizations, including the Rotary Club and Immaculate Conception Parish in Calais. She has three grown children and four grandchildren.

Perry is running as a Clean Elections candidate.
