BUCKSPORT —The Alamo Theatre has received a $7,880 grant from the Hancock County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to enhance services for community performances and presentations.
“As energized community groups in Bucksport plan more cultural activities, from concerts to panel discussions, this grant will give the Alamo the sound and lighting equipment performers and speakers expect,” said David Weiss, executive director of Northeast Historic Film, which runs the Alamo. “This grant will provide better infrastructure for performances, rental events, and for our weekly movies.”
The Alamo Theatre, built in 1916, was purchased by Northeast Historic Film, the non-profit moving image archives, and reopened in 1999. Since then the Alamo has presented 6,000 film screenings and 1,000 other presentations to over 300,000 people.
