BANGOR, Maine — The intake of animals at the Bangor Humane Society has increased dramatically, and the building is now at capacity, filled with abandoned, stray or surrendered pets. Many more are on a waiting list for individuals needing to surrender.

“When we are at capacity, the health of our animals is at risk,” warned Stacy Coventry, director of development and public relations.

In response to this influx, the Bangor Humane Society is currently waiving adoption fees for all adults animals 7 months and older.

Maine’s oldest humane society, the Bangor Humane Society is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of all pets through education, advocacy and quality care. Its Animal Care and Adoption Center at 693 Mount Hope Ave is open noon-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit www.bangorhumane.org.
