A World of Habitats — Nature Studies at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge

ALTON, Maine — Project Learning Tree, in collaboration with Hirundo Wildlife Refuge www.hirundomaine.org, is offering a one-day educator workshop for area teachers and community leaders from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

 Prekindergarten to eighth-grade teachers, formal and nonformal educators, college students and after-school program leaders will experience activities that bring the PLT interdisciplinary curriculum outdoors.

 Receive the nationally recognized PLT PreK-8 Activity Guide that includes 96 classroom ready activities. Learn how to explore and compare various habitats with a naturalist, an experienced teacher, and the Maine PLT coordinator. This outdoor and hands-on field investigations session provides opportunities for learning how to use the outdoors as a means to teach all content areas with links to current state and national standards.

Project Learning Tree is an internationally recognized environmental education program. Through hands-on, interdisciplinary activities, PLT provides students in grades PreK-12 with opportunities to investigate environmental issues and encourages them to make informed, responsible decisions. Maine PLT is an education program of the Maine TREE Foundation and the American Forest Foundation.

Cost of the workshop is $35/educators and $25/students. All participants will receive the guide, a certificate of attendance and handouts related to all activities. Coffee and morning snacks provided. Bring a lunch and dress for the outdoors for the better part of the day. Save your place! Be sure to register no later than May 11.
