Michael J. Dowd is Director of Print Operations. Dowd, a 32-year veteran, leads a team of reporters covering Greater Bangor and the issues important to Maine cities and service centers across the state. As Standards Editor, Mike leads weekly print critiques of the BDN, review/ approve corrections, and contribute perspective about newsroom initiatives to ensure they dovetail with the BDN's journalistic and community standards. A Bangor native, Dowd began his career at the BDN as a sportswriter and has worked as a sports columnist, state desk co-editor, city editor, night news editor,  managing editor and editor-in-chief. Dowd is a member of the Maine Committee on Media and Courts and the Maine Press Association. He works closely with Anthony Ronzio, director of news and new media.
