Greenville High School's Connor DiAngelo (left) and Nick Foley (right) scrap for the ball with Woodland High School's Drew Hayward on March 3, 2018, in Augusta during the Maine Class D Boys Basketball Championship game. Greenville won the game 47-46.

The winter sports season is upon us, and the BDN is asking for the help of coaches, team managers and/or athletic administrators to report their scores and results to help us provide our readers with the most complete coverage. We schools to report their home games.

We have a new procedure for reporting basketball and hockey games that will enable us to post your results quickly on our website and get them in the newspaper. Coaches or meet administrators for track and field, swimming, wrestling and skiing should send their results, in Associated Press or an all-text format, to bdnsports@bangordailynews.com

To report basketball and hockey results, coaches who have not already done so need to complete a brief, one-time registration process as described here. If you do not register, you will not be able to report your results.

Once logged in, go to http://bangordailynews.com/sports/scores, click on the correct date, find your team’s game and click the “Final Score” and “Game Details,” boxes. Please follow the examples provided for the details you are able to report, then click on submit.

Submitting at least the score is appreciated, although we know the student-athletes and their families also love to see the players’ names and details of their accomplishments listed.

FOR BASKETBALL, we ask schools to list each team’s won-lost record and the first and last names of double-figure or high scorers/rebounders for each team. You may include the last names of all players, along with their field goals, free throws and point totals (ie Smith 5-2-12) for both teams. And you also may provide the score by quarters for both teams (Johnsonville 12-22-38-54). See the examples provided in the game file for whatever other details you are able to report.

Key highlights or milestones (which are not published but will be reviewed by an editor) may be added by checking the “Note to Editor” box.

FOR POSTPONED GAMES, we ask that coaches or athletic administrators email us at bdnsports@bangordailynews.com with the rescheduled date as soon as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to report your games and events!

Please note that because of the logistical challenges of printing the BDN in southern Maine and distributing the newspaper to our large geographic region, games that are not reported by 8 p.m. likely will not appear in print until the next day’s edition. However, they will be published online.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us provide our readers with the best possible coverage of winter sports!

If you have any questions, please contact Digital Sports Editor Pete Warner at pwarner@bangordailynews.com or at 207-990-8240 (weekdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m.).
