A play-by-play look at how UMaine beat Jacksonville State

The University of Maine football team defeated Jacksonville State 55-27 in the Black Bears’ second-ever Football Championship Subdivision home game on Morse Field at Alfond Stadium in Orono.

JSU’s Zerrick Cooper is 6-for-11 passing with 178 yards and two scores. He has lost two fumbles and been sacked four times. Jamari Hester has four receptions for 125 yards and two TDs.


UMaine’s 42 points are the most in its playoff history for a game


Wideout Earnest Edwards has three catches for 49 yards and two scores and Jaquan Blair has three grabs for 42 yards and a TD


For UMaine, Ferguson is 11-for-19 passing for 133 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Ramon Jefferson already is over 100 yards rushing with 119 on 13 attempts and a TD. 


The Gamecocks, who needed only three total plays to score their two touchdowns, are nonetheless 0-for-6 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth-down conversions


UMaine has outgained JSU only 280-245, but has turned two fumbles into a pair of touchdowns.


It was a half for the ages for the Black Bears, who lead Jacksonville State 42-14 at halftime of their FCS second-round playoff game. 


And UMaine forces a punt. 19 seconds left and JSU looking to punt


A block in the back on the ensuing kickoff puts JSU at its own 5 to start the possession. 1:42 left in the half.


This is the most points UMaine has scored in an entire game this season. And the most the Gamecocks have allowed in a complete game.


Ramon Jefferson races around the right side, picking up a nice block from Micah Wright for a 24-yard touchdown. Doak’s PAT makes it 42-14 with 1:49 left — and it’s still the first half.


A pass interference call moves the Bears to the JSU 24.

On the next play, Ferguson lofts a 20-yard pass to Micah Wright in the end zone and the Black Bears are up two scores, 28-14. Still 11:27 remaining in the first half
