GREEN BAY, Wis. — Earlier in the week, the University of Maine women’s basketball team took perennial Atlantic Coast Conference power Duke to the brink in Bangor.

On Tuesday night, the Black Bears were no match for Green Bay.

The Phoenix, who led Division I in scoring defense last season, outscored UMaine 46-21 in the second half to pull away for a resounding 70-39 victory.

Blanca Millan paced UMaine (2-2) scoring with 11 points, her fourth straight game in double digits. Tanesha Sutton added eight points and Maddy McVicar each hit two 3-pointers on the way to seven points.

Green Bay (2-2) limited the Black Bears to 30 percent shooting (14-for-47), including 6-for-29 (21 percent) from 3-point range range. The Phoenix controlled action inside, outrebounding UMaine 41-22 and outscored the Black Bears 36-6 in the paint.

Green Bay went into the locker room with only a 24-18 lead at halftime, but quickly extended its advantage with an 18-6 burst to start the third quarter.

With the Phoenix already up 33-24, Lyndsey Robson ignited the decisive 11-0 flurry with a layup at the 4:49 mark of the third. She then hit a 3-pointer, before Laken James connected for a jumper. Frankie Wurtz and Robson then hit jumpers from the lane as Green Bay made it 44-24 with 2:36 remaining in the period.

Robson made four of five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 18 points to pace Green Bay. James (5 assists) finished with 12 points while Wurtz (5 rebounds, 3 assists) netted 11 points. Madison Wolf chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Black Bears continue road action when they travel to the U.S. Naval Academy to take part in the 2018 Navy Classic. UMaine plays North Carolina A&T at 3:15 p.m. Saturday then faces Penn at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
