John LaMarre hung up his apron Friday after 15 years of owning and operating the popular Roast N Crumb restaurant on Route 1 in York.

“I’ve been standing on my feet for 40 years,” he said. “I guess it’s time to try something different.”

The final day was marked by a great party attended by his loyal customers who he describes as “just amazing. We care about them. They care about us. It’s been a joy to serve them.”

York police officers were on hand as well, presenting LaMarre with an award for his commitment and dedication to various York organizations. For instance, he has donated his time and food every year to the Charlie Brown Basketball Tournament, “and he has always been willing to donate his time and his great baking skills for various fundraisers,” police said in a Facebook post.

He said he couldn’t have accomplished what he did without a great staff over the years — including current employees Albert Barron and Marybeth Stone.
