A Lewiston woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Bowdoin.

Amanda T. Gauvin, 37, was traveling north on West Road at about 1:12 p.m. when her 2003 Ford Focus failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Store Road and was struck on the driver’s side by a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Geraldine Scanlon, 29, of Sabattus, Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry said in a release Wednesday night.

Gauvin’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and she died of severe trauma, according to Merry. Scanlon was not injured.

Emergency crews from Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Lisbon responded to the crash along with Sagadahoc County sheriff’s deputies.

Merry said officials don’t know why Gauvin failed to stop at the stop sign. The crash remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by members of the sheriff’s office and Brunswick Police Department.

One or both roads were partially closed throughout the afternoon as the crash was cleared and reconstructed.
