BANGOR, Maine — Tanner Evans turned in a strong outing to lead Old Town to the District 3 Junior League baseball title with a 9-2 victory over Bronco-Hermon at Mansfield Stadium on Saturday.
Evans pitched 6 1/3 innings, scattering nine hits and two runs while walking just one and striking out two for Old Town (3-0).
Evans aided his own cause with three singles and two RBIs while Zack Dill added three singles and an RBI. Cam Shorette chipped in with a double and two RBIs while Matt Seymour and Sam Magoon each added two singles. Seymour also drove in two runs.
Kolby Moore sparked Bronco-Hermon (2-2) with three singles and an RBI while Jacob Lorenzo contributed two singles and an RBI.
In a losers bracket game earlier Saturday, Bronco-Hermon eliminated Holbrook-Brewer-Orrington 20-14.
Bronco-Hermon rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead before H-B-0 scored two in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings. Bronco-Hermon then scored six more in the top of the eighth to earn the win.
Tyler Smith sparked Bronco-Hermon with two doubles, two singles and five RBIs. Jackson Zenk contributed with three singles and three RBIs while Thomas Knott, Kolby Moore and Jacob Lorenzo each chipped in with three singles and two RBIs.
Anthony Chiappone drove in five runs to lead H-B-O (2-2) with a grand slam and inside-the-park home run. Adam Hoxie added four singles while Cody Graves had two singles and an RBI and Hunter Russell had a double.
