A Windham home was heavily damaged after a fire Monday morning.

One person who was inside at the time of the fire was able to get out safely.

Crews were called to Falmouth Road around 2:30 a.m. When they arrived, flames were seen coming from the second floor.

Several different departments assisted Windham in fighting the fire.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in about a half-hour but remained on the scene to put out hotspots. Falmouth Road was closed from Nash Road to Albion Road.

Windham Fire Chief Brent Libby said there is significant damage to the second floor and water and smoke damage to the first, but the house doesn’t appear to be a total loss.

Libby said the cause of the fire is unknown but added that it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

The Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.

The fire remains under investigation.
