Bangor police K-9 helps search Lowell woods for gunman

LOWELL, Maine — Police seek help in finding a gunman for whom they unsuccessfully searched after he fired several rounds near children playing in a yard on York Hill Road on Saturday. No injuries were reported.

Bangor police Officer Jason Linkletter and his tracking dog Lex joined Lincoln and state police, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputies and game wardens in the search after a 911 call came in at about 4:15 p.m., Sgt. William Birch of the sheriff’s office said.

The caller, a resident on York Hill Road, reported the gunman firing several shots close to the house. Birch said the search of the roads and thick woods in the area continued until about 8:30 p.m. He declined to say what evidence police found that backed the complaint or what type of weapon was used.

Birch asked that anyone who might know of someone hunting or shooting a weapon in the area Saturday to call the sheriff’s office at 945-4636.

The investigation is continuing.

York Hill Road is off Route 188, or West Old Main Road, west of Vinegar Hill Road and Gristmill Pond and east of Buck Brook.
