SHAPLEIGH, Maine — A New Hampshire man was arrested early Sunday after an alleged domestic dispute with an ex-girlfriend he was prohibited from contacting, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew Mayer, 47, also allegedly threatened to kill himself during the argument with the woman, putting the barrel of an AK-47 rifle in his mouth, Sheriff William King said.

The woman was home alone and Mayer had shown up uninvited, King said. She fled when Mayer allegedly put the weapon in his mouth.

As deputies cordoned off the area, Mayer continued to express suicidal thoughts, but after more than an hour of negotiations, Mayer exited the residence unarmed.

He, however, failed to comply with deputies’ commands, forcing them to subdue him with a Taser as he tried to return into the residence, King said.

Mayer was charged with violation of condition of release and taken to the York County Jail. He was not eligible for bail.
