Virginia “Ginger” Jones Godfrey


PENNEY FARMS – Virginia “Ginger” Jones Godfrey died peacefully surrounded by family on November 24th, 2015 in Penney Farms, Florida. She was 76.
Ginger is survived by her husband, Charles William Godfrey Sr. and her sister Saundra Jones Green, both of Penney Farms; her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine Richter and Robert Richter, of Ipswich, MA; her son and daughter-in-law Charles William Godfrey Jr. and Naki Slemp Godfrey of Skippack, PA; and by her three adored grandchildren; Chase Godfrey, and Caroline and Sumner Richter.
Ginger was born in 1939 in Jacksonville Florida to Irving Tyler Jones and Myrtle Wrye Jones. She attended high school at Bradford County High School graduating in 1957 and St. Vincent’s Nursing School graduating in 1959. Ginger married the love of her life Charles in this same year, and was a practicing nurse for twenty years, later becoming a real estate broker. Charles and Ginger often moved during their 56-year marriage, living in Jasper, FL, Washington, GA, Akin, SC, Savannah, GA, Greenwich CT, Myrtle Beach, SC and Brooklin, ME, collecting many wonderful friends along the way.
Ginger was an outgoing, kind and intelligent woman whose most prized possessions were her friends and family. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and was active as a leader in both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in support of her children. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Green Cove Springs Florida, and the Brooklin Baptist Church, close to her second home in Maine.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 28th, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Russell Haven of Rest Chapel with Rev. Wayne Hopper officiating.
