Zoo Cairn shovels snow outside Fidelity Investments, near Middle Street in Portland, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, during the early part of a storm that would bring a record 31.9 inches of snow to the city.

It seems like every season we see some kind of weather extreme — whether it’s a few of the hottest summer days since way back when or February nor’easters that challenge snowfall records. And in some wacky years, Mainers have seen the opposites — snow when it was supposed to be warm and heat when it was supposed to be cold.

Maine has some crazy and unpredictable weather. As the old saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in Maine, just wait a few minutes.

But just how crazy is it? Try answering these 14 questions about Maine’s weather and meteorological history. Some deal with straight-up facts — like temperatures and precipitation levels — while others get into the human stories that make weather so interesting.

A tip of the cap here to BDN State House Bureau Chief Christopher Cousins for the quiz idea.
