WINDHAM, Maine — A Maine Correctional Center inmate serving time for sexual assault died late Tuesday, officials said.

Harold Gleason, 67, of Aroostook County, was serving a split 20-year sentence with all but seven years suspended, according to Scott Fish of the Department of Corrections.

Fish said Gleason’s death occurred at 9 p.m. at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Gleason, who was sentenced in August 2013, was scheduled for release in November 2018, at which point he would have been on probation for 99 years, according to Fish.

State police and the Medical Examiner’s office are looking into the cause of Gleason’s death.
