SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Palmyra man was indicted by a Somerset County grand jury earlier this week on sexual assault charges.

Stephen Lowe, 39, who was arrested earlier this month, is accused of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster told the BDN after Lowe’s arrest that the assaults on a 13-year old girl occurred in January, and that the two were familiar with one another.

Gross sexual assault is a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years behind bars.

Lowe was one of 18 people indicted by the grand jury this week:

Richard Austin, 29, Norridgewock, operating after revocation, violating conditions of release.

Bruce Bennett Jr.,33, violating conditions of release, eight counts.

Jeremy Lau, 39, Bangor, theft, three counts.

James Aponte, 23, Lawrence, Mass., aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Christopher Nault, 46, transient, operating after revocation, refusing to submit to arrest.

James Dostie, 28, Fairfield, eluding an officer, driving to endanger, failing to stop for an officer, operating after suspension.

Michael Hewey, 27, Skowhegan, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

Darryl Avery, 56, Madison, burglary, six counts, theft, five counts.

Daniel Groover, 40, Readfield, aggravated criminal mischief.

Matthew Reilly, 25, Canaan, forgery, three counts.

Michael Kyes, 53, Jackman, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

Bruce Morris, 66, Bingham, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Amanda Jacques, 26, Benton, theft, three counts, burglary, two counts, criminal mischief.

Alexander Ray, 25, Norridgewock, burglary, theft.

Billy Joe Bragg, 48, Pittsfield, domestic violence assault, violating conditions of release.

Jay Belanger, 29, Dexter, robbery, burglary, theft.
