Corinth man who allegedly gave himself a $1,000 a week raise indicted on theft charge

BANGOR, Maine — A Corinth man who allegedly gave himself a $1,000 a week raise by altering his paychecks from a Bangor business was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury on one count of theft by authorized taking.

Ransford W. Bubar III, 28, altered five paychecks in August and September by adding the numeral one before the number 200, Michael Roberts, deputy district attorney for Penobscot County said Wednesday after the grand jury handed up indictments.

“Instead of for $200, the checks were for $1,200,” the prosecutor said. “Mr. Bubar apparently gave himself a $5,000 raise.”

An arraignment date has not been set.

If convicted, Bubar faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. He also could be ordered to pay restitution to Dorr’s Equipment, located on outer Hammond Street.

In an unrelated case, a Holden man was indicted on one count each of sexual exploitation of a minor, sexual abuse of a minor, possession of sexually explicit materials and violation of condition of release.

Kirk Panther, 21, was arrested Nov. 18 and released from the Penobscot County Jail on $2,500 cash bail the next day, according to a previously published report. He was arrested again Dec. 4 and charged with violating his bail conditions by allegedly having contact with a minor victim.

Panther remained Wednesday night at the jail where is being held without bail on the sex charges.

He is expected to be arraigned next month.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Iban A. Freeman, 28, Bangor, operating after revocation.

Donald Galleck, 25, Bangor, Bangor, theft by unauthorized taking.

Rachel Erin Gardner, 29, Bangor, burglary, three counts of theft by unauthorized taking.

James Richard Grant, 55, Hudson, failure to appear, violation of condition of release.

Don Hanson, 34, Westfield, eluding an officer, driving to endanger, failure to stop for an officer.
