SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man was arrested on Wednesday night after an alleged hit-and-run at a South Portland intersection, police said.

Officers were called to the intersection of Broadway and Harriet Street shortly after 6 p.m. when it was reported a man was lying in the road unconscious, according to South Portland police Sgt. Steven Webster.

Brett Catruch, 27, allegedly struck the man with his vehicle, according to Webster. The victim’s name was not disclosed.

Police learned about two hours after the initial call that Catruch was responsible for hitting the man when he called police and confessed, according to Webster.

He was interviewed, arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and operating under the influence, and violating conditions of release.

Catruch was brought to the Cumberland County Jail and held without bail. The victim was transported to Maine Medical Center, and his condition was not known Thursday.
