BIDDEFORD – Verna L. Dumont died at her home in Biddeford, ME on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, she was 81 years old. She was born on August 13, 1933 in Hamlin Plantation to Isidore and Mattie (Madore) Dumond.
She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren, Maine in 1952. She entered the convent with the Good Shepherd Sisters and worked at St. Andre’s Home for unwed mothers. This is where she began her nursing training (on the job). She eventually left the order but remained in the nursing field until her retirement. She worked at Van Buren Hospital for many years and then moved to Biddeford where she worked at St. Andre’s Nursing Home. Her caring ways and sense of humor, in addition to her nursing skills, made her an exceptional nurse. She received her LPN degree from SMVTI in 1975.
She kept close ties to her religious life with the Good Shepherd Sisters throughout the years. She developed a heart condition that would no longer allow her to work. But she continued her caring work with others; she become an Associate of the Presentation of Mary Order and volunteered countless hours for 20 plus years. She was a woman of deep faith, loved the beach and loved her family and friends unconditionally. She will be forever missed by them.
She leaves behind sisters, Mildred (Frederick) Munson of Presque Isle, ME, Robertine Lachance of Bangor, ME, Jackie Demeres of Epsom, NH and brothers, Don (Dora) Dumond and Jim (Irene) Dumond, both of Van Buren, ME and Dick Dumond of Hermon, ME and 3 generations of nieces and nephews and countless friends. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Joe, Stacy, Frances.
