FREEPORT, Maine — Two residents and a guest of apartments on Thunder Road were arrested Monday night after a fracas that began when one person allegedly poured laundry soap over a tenant’s belongings.

Police responded just after 9 p.m. Monday after a tenant, Hilary R. Maines, 30, reported that Timothy Fraser, 23, of Brunswick, allegedly squirted laundry soap all over property belonging to Maines, Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse said.

“That started the ball rolling,” Nourse said.

Fraser, who was staying with 23-year-old Alyssa L. Shope, was charged with criminal mischief, violation of conditions of release and on a warrant for unpaid fines.

About 90 minutes later, police returned to the building after Maines allegedly smashed windows and threatened to harm Shope, according to Nourse.

Maines was charged with criminal threatening, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. The latter charge stems from a child in the home allegedly having access to alcohol and drugs “that were readily available,” and from the general conditions in the home, Nourse said. Police also contacted the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

Shope was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay fines.

All were taken to Cumberland County Jail. Shope and Maines were released on bail. Fraser remained in custody Tuesday morning. Court dates were not immediately available.
