Credit union to open branch in Old Town

OLD TOWN —  Maine Savings credit union will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new College Avenue branch in Old Town as part of a celebration through Friday, Sept. 5, at the new branch, corner of College and Stillwater avenues. In addition to free food and giveaways, the events will feature a meet and greet with former University of Maine star and present Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, and coaches of various Black Bear teams. The events are free and open to the public, Maine Savings membership is not required.

“We couldn’t be more excited to share the opening of our new branch with the Old Town and Orono communities as well as the faculty, staff and students at the University of Maine,” said John Reed, president and CEO of Maine Savings. “In addition to the festivities, we have some big news to announce at the ribbon cutting with our friends at UMaine Athletics.”

At all events, attendees will have a chance to learn about Maine Savings’ free RedWallet checking account, and other services including online and mobile banking, mortgages, auto, credit cards and more.

Thursday, Sept. 4:

• Meet and Greet with UMaine coaches, noon-2 p.m. Men’s Hockey Coach Red Gendron, Football Coach Jack Cosgrove, Baseball Coach Steve Trimper, Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Walsh, Women’s Basketball Coach Richard Barron, Director of UMaine Athletics Karlton Creech, Mascot Bananas T. Bear. (Coach appearances are subject to change.)

Friday, Sept. 5:

• Meet and Greet with Jimmy Howard,1:30-4:30 p.m.

• Pizza Party with Pompeii Pizza, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Free pizza while supplies last; one serving per person.
