Opera talk

ORONO — Beth Brand, a cellist and opera lover, will discuss misconceptions about opera, why some consider it the greatest art form, and current trends, along with glimpses into the upcoming season’s operas, Live from the Met, at the Collins Center for the Arts. Her talk will take place 3-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Dirigo Pines. Admission is free. To register, call Gateway Seniors, 889-3031.

 

Auditions

ORONO — Orono Community Theatre and Ten Bucks Theatre announced that they will hold tandem auditions for “The Turn of the Screw,” produced by TenBucks Theatre, and “The Death of a Salesman,” co-produced by Orono Community Theatre and Ten Bucks Theatre, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, and 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at  Keith Anderson Community House, 19 Bennoch Road.

Auditions will be readings from the scripts. Later callbacks may be announced.

The roles of Willy Loman, Linda Loman and Uncle Ben in “The Death of a Salesman’ already have been cast. All other roles will be available.
