ROCKLAND, Maine — Kate McAleer — owner of Bixby & Co., maker of organic and certified sustainable chocolate bars — has been nominated to the Top 200 Young Entrepreneurs in the United States by Empact Showcase.

Public online voting through Oct. 3 will decide who is presented the People’s Choice Award.

McAleer wants to get as many “likes” next to her company name as possible, according to a news release. Bixby was 13th as of Friday afternoon with 138 votes. Dorsey Investments LLC of Philadelphia was number one with 2,423. Bixby & Co. is the only Maine participant.

“Kate is a model young entrepreneur and one of a small handful who have made Rockland their home for business. We want to encourage her success and attract other entrepreneurs to our community,” said Rockland Community Development director John Holden.

According to its website, www.empactshowcase.com, the Empact Showcase highlights the power of America’s top young entrepreneurs (35 years old and younger) and the important role that they play in society.

The Showcase is sponsored, in part, by Entrepreneur Magazine.

The Top Empact 100 List will be determined by the Empact Academy, which is comprised of top entrepreneurs in the country. The Academy for 2014 includes Kay Koplovitz, founder of the USA Network and the Sci-Fi Channel and chairman of Springboard Enterprises; Mike DeLazzer, founder of Redbox; and Tony Hsieh, chief executive officer of Zappos.

The release states that to vote for McAleer and Bixby & Co., visit: www.empactshowcase.com/company/5439-bixby—co-/2014.
