BREWER, Maine — A three-day celebration of the community, Brewer Days, will kick off next week with events ranging from Zumba and karate demonstrations to live music and fireworks.
Events start on Friday, Sept. 5, with a Brewer Youth Hockey family barbecue at the Brewer Auditorium. The Brewer Hometown Band will perform at the auditorium from 6 to 7 p.m. Mayor Jerry Goss will announce the winners of the citizen and business of the year at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., the party will move outside with a family street dance and block party in the auditorium parking lot. Fireworks launch at 9 p.m., with the dancing continuing until 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, a Brewer Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast is scheduled 7-9:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children. A farmers market will be open in the auditorium parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Brewer Police Department with host an auction for all unclaimed recovered bicycles collected over the past few years. There are approximately 50 bicycles up for auction. Public viewing of bicycles will be held at 10 a.m. at the auditorium, and the bicycle auction will begin at 11 a.m.
A children’s carnival and activities will be held in the auditorium parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, along with Police and Fire department displays and demonstrations. A Zumba demonstration will take place on the auditorium stage at 10 a.m.
Several bands will perform on stages in the area from 11 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
The Brewer Fire Department will set up a giant water slide on Doyle Field, which will be open for an hour starting at 3:30 p.m.
A zombie- and witch-themed 5K run will start at Brewer Community School at 5 p.m., though participants should show up early to register, get dressed up or transformed into a zombie. Registration starts at 4 p.m.
Brewer Historical Society will host a spaghetti dinner and silent auction 5-6:30 p.m. at the auditorium. There is a charge of $6 per person.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, the SnapSpace Solutions parking lot, 55 Baker Blvd., will host a car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with music, food, prizes and games for kids.
