Truck crash knocks out power in South Bristol

SOUTH BRISTOL, Maine — A single-vehicle crash on Route 129 caused a widespread power outage in the Rutherford Island area about 1 p.m.

The driver of a box truck apparently became distracted, veered off the road and struck a utility pole, knocking down wires and causing the outage, according to Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The name of the driver was not immediately released.

Power was expected to be out for several hours while Central Maine Power repairs the damage.

The accident reduced car traffic to one lane and closed Route 129 to commercial vehicles because of the low-lying wires.
