Newport man dies in accident at Rumford mill

RUMFORD, Maine — A Newport man is dead after an accident at the NewPage paper mill in Rumford on Monday, officials said.

Brant Munster, 35, was working on a crane inside the mill shortly before 2 p.m. when he struck a roof support and fell 28 feet, according to Rumford Police Chief Stacy Carter.

Munster was performing repair work at the time of the accident, according to Carter.

Munster was employed by Somatex Crane out of Pittsfield, the police chief said.

The accident remains under investigation by Occupational Safety and Health Administration along with the Rumford Police Department.
