BANGOR, Maine — Leaders of Grace Church issued a statement Tuesday announcing plans to cease operations, including its day care, because of decreased membership that has in turn resulted in a loss of charitable income.

“It is with great regret that the board of directors has resolved to close Grace Church Bangor and Life Academy Daycare,” Russ Hewett, senior minister and president, and day care director Heather Collins said in a joint statement to day care parents and guardians.

Hewett could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

According to the statement, the church’s final service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31.

The notice said the church will make every effort to provide child care through Sept. 12. The day care will be closed on Labor Day.

Prepayment will be required for children attending the academy during the weeks of Sept. 2-5 and Sept. 8-12 and refunds will be given to those who prepaid beyond Sept. 12.
