BANGOR, Maine — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins hits the road this week on a three-day bus tour of the state as part of her re-election campaign.

Collins, a Republican, is running for a fourth term in the U.S. Senate against Democratic challenger Shenna Bellows, the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine.

Earlier this summer, Bellows walked from Houlton to Kittery in a 350-mile trek to promote her campaign.

Collins’ campaign announced Monday the “All of Maine” bus tour, which will start 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in Bangor.

The tour will travel more than 350 miles in the first three days with stops in seven of the state’s 16 counties. The tour will continue through the remaining nine counties through November, a release from Collins’ campaign stated.

“The bus tour is a Maine election year tradition,“ Steve Abbott, Collins’ campaign manager, said in a prepared statement. “With the help of our extensive grassroots leadership team of more than 560 town and county chairs, the bus tour will give Sen. Collins the opportunity to visit tens of thousands of voters throughout all of Maine.”

Tuesday’s stops will be in Bangor, Hampden, Hermon, Newport and Skowhegan, ending at the New Balance shoe factory and then Gifford’s Ice Cream.

The tour starts back up 8 a.m. Wednesday at Simones Hot Dog Stand in Lewiston before travelling to Hiram, Cornish, Limerick, Waterboro, East Waterboro, Alfred, Springvale and Sanford.

Wednesday’s tour winds up at Mill 67 for a happy hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The tour restarts 8:15 a.m. Thursday at Congdon’s Donut Shop in Wells before travelling to Wells, Kittery, Saco, Scarborough, Portland and Bath.
